New Post: Fork for Mediaportal??

I don't think you'll see a fork since this project is not being developed any more, and anyway it would not really be a fork since WMC and MediaPortal are very different.

There is already something similar (better really) for MediaPortal though called WifiRemote:

I have this issue as well, I have extenders Mcx 10, 11, 12.

Faloony did you ever find a fix for this or does anyone else have an answer?

I was wondering if anyone had plans on doing a fork for mediaportal or any idea on how to make it work with mediaportal? Any help would be great thanks.

Can anyone answer this? I am in the same boat. Lots of people seem to be using this OK somehow and it looks like just what I need, but nowhere in the documentation says how to set this up. Sorry if this is a total noob question but I can't figure out what method is used to send those commands. Are they supposed to be used in a scripting language (which?) Is there some direct html sysntax that sends them? I was hoping it was like remote potato or similar, where going to the ip-address:port would open an interface but it doesn't. Is it supposed to?

I don't really want to use telnet but can't find any info on how to use the http interface beyond a statement identifying the port. What are people using for a front-end to send all those listed commands?

I'll install is over the weekend, I created a plugin for HouseBot software that uses the old version of vmccontroller. It used the music-list-artists, always bugged me with various artist albums. Looking forward to testing the album artists.

Unfortunately I only have x64 version so can't test the x86 version.

I love the new album artists command as it actually seems to give proper album artists unlike the hack I was using before. Can anyone test the 32-bit version? I think there's still a bug with the commands, but I can't find a 32-bit installation anywhere and it's driving me nuts.

Are you able to re-upload the latest x64 msi? Drop box links dont work. Would love to use the command 'music-list-album-artists' as the current msi does not support this.

I have downloaded the code from github.com and have been trying to compile it all evening, but keep getting errors creating the msi using wix.

They both install but I can't confirm they actually fix the bugs with the buttons and MCE focus. What exactly were the button problems? I don't use that aspect so I am not sure exactly how to test. Please let me know how they work for you.

Hi. Great software

I am trying to write some simple code that will look at the mediameta then find the frame rate then change the screen refresh to match.

I can command some things and the mediametadata works fine. However when I send playstate-get i only receive "204 Success"

I am testing with telnet. is the playstate a value that doe not show up as ascii?

I think we spoke previously about this but I never got round to trying your version of VMC Controller. Two main things I am looking for are the ability to be able to launch 3rd party MCE add-ins using the GOTO command and to be able to send Shutdown / S3 sleep commands to the MCE PC.

Can this be done ?

I use the MCE TCP/IP Controller together with Promixis Girder home automation software as part of a HTPC setup. Girder connects to the event sink on port 40400 and is successfully receiving events from MCE.

After a while however (I haven't determined the exact amount of time yet but I will guess around 6 hours or so), it seems that the connection times out. I don't know what is causing the connection to drop, so I am assuming right now that it is a lack of activity in MCE (i.e. the overnight period when the PC sits idle) that is causing this issue. I have to re-initialize the connection to the event sink from the Girder side for it to start receiving events again from MCE.

Is there some sort of built-in timeout for event sink connections in this TCP/IP Controller? If so, is there a way to disable it or force some sort of keep alive?

Right now I have come up with a workaround to have Girder automatically initiate a new connection on port 40400 every few hours, but I can see that this is resulting in multiple client connections to the controller based on the feedback it sends after the connection is established.

Can anyone help out with this?

Oh wow, thanks! With a lot of troubleshooting, I downloaded your fork and was able to build MSIs in VS 2012 RC using the new WiX. I successfully installed the 64-bit version but have yet to do any testing. Are you planning any other changes/fixes?

It's pretty much a dead project. I was the second developer who took it over and I no longer even have access to a Media Center PC.

In answer to your question - I don't know. I tried to do this way back and looking at the API documentation it should have worked with the GOTO command (this just wraps the API), but I could never figure out how to specify the page completely and I never got it to work.

Hello

I am using the TCPIP VMC Controller on my Windows 7 Media Center PC's in conjunction with mControl Home Automation software.

I would like to create a macro in mControl server so that when the door bell is pressed mControl server via VMC Controller opens the 3rd party MCE add-in for mControl and goes to my IP camera at the front door.

Question 1:

Can VMC Controller launch 3rd party MCE add-ins like mControl or any another add-in like My Movies - TunerFree MCE etc.

I tried using the GOTO command and Extensibility URL but can't figure out how to launch MCML add-ins? HTML media center add-ins launch OK however.

Question 2: If it is not possible to directly launch 3rd party MCE add-ins with VMC Controller, instead can VMC Controller send keyboard commands to the Windows 7 client PC ?

For example Ctrl+Alt+7 would launch the mControl MCML add-in in Media Center, as I am using AutoHotKey to launch 3rd party MCE add-ins when certain keyboard shortcuts are detected, I use this with my Logitech Harmony remote control currently to add custom buttons on the remote control to launch My Movies for example.

Sample AutoHotKey command to launch the mControl MCML add-in in Media Center:

I created a fork from the vmccontroller source, because i like to add some new features and solve some outstandig bugs:

- button problem for x86 and x64

- set mce focus

etc.
